've often wondered if the Scottish highland cattle can actually see where they are going. The thick hair on their faces have to obscure a significant percentage of their vision. I photographed this mother and calf in the Island of Skye in northwestern Scotland. These animals are very friendly and will often approach the fence where you can actually use a wide angle lens. I don't know how anyone can see these cute cows and then think about eating a hamburger! For this shot, I used a 100-400mm telephoto. The weather here is often overcast, and that was ideal in this case because the contrast was minimized. My settings were 1/500, f/7.1, and 800 ISO.
