I'm leading a new photo tour to the Normandy and Burgundy regions of France in October 2019, so I thought I'd post a picture of one of the great works of architecture of that region. Le Mont Saint Michel is a spectacular abbey with a religious history that dates from the 8th century A.D. It looks dramatic at any time, but during the blue hour of twilight, it is particularly photogenic. In this composite, I combined a photo of the abbey taken in the 90s with film along with a digital capture of the Milky Way. The 6x7cm original transparency was scanned with an Imacon high-end scanner. The skies in Europe usually have too much light pollution, so if you want a cosmic background, it has to happen in Photoshop.

Jim - Thanks, Bob. My original didn't look like this at all -- what a difference a background makes!
