Penguins of South Georgia

I photographed this mass of king penguins on South Georgia on my way down to Antarctica. It was quite a sight. I climbed a hill to get an elevated perspective because only with this kind of angle could I convey the incredible number of birds. The brown penguins are immature juveniles. I used a moderately small lens aperture because the back of the camera (i.e. the plane of the digital sensor) was oblique to the plane of the birds as I angled the camera downward. With a telephoto lens, I was afraid of having less than complete depth of field. In a picture like this, the last thing you'd want is for the foreground or background to be soft -- even a little. That would totally ruin the photograph. My settings were 1/100, f/13, and 400 ISO. I took this with a 70-200mm telephoto.
