I photographed this polar bear on the shore of Hudson Bay in Canada. The reason this picture works well, in my opinion, is the position of the legs. The way they are stretched and bent adds artistry to the portrait. This is true for so many wildlife images. If the animals' legs are positioned attractively, more than likely the picture will be successful. Notice the low angled perspective here. I did not take this from one of those monster tundra buggies where the high camera angle makes the bears look unimpressive. Instead, my photo tour group and I were on the ground, enclosed in an electric fence, photographing bears as they walked past our compound. I used a 500mm lens, and my settings were 1/1000, f/8, and 1000 ISO.
