For landscape photography, Namibia is amazing. The spectacular orange sand dunes are the largest in the world, and there are S-curves everywhere. In low angled sunlight, they become pronounced and esthetically stunning. While my photography group was taking pictures in the late afternoon, we saw someone at the top of the dune moving around. It wasn’t clear what he was doing because he appeared so small at that distance. Finally, he jumped off and started piloting his hang glider in a zig zag pattern right in front of the perfect dune. The timing, and our position, couldn’t have been more perfect. It was a once in a lifetime shot. Because the sunlight illuminated the glider so nicely, I waited until he sailed in front of the large shadow to shoot. The contrast was great. My settings were 1/400, f/5, and 200 ISO. I used a Canon 70-200mm telephoto set to 145mm.
