Portrait from the island of Java

Not traveling very much right now has given me the time to revisit older pictures and apply my Photoshop skills to create composites or to enhance them with various artistic techniques. I photographed this Javanese bride from Indonesia about 20 years ago, and I was captivated by the stylized makeup and adornment she wore. I applied a texture to the original, desaturated some of the colors, muted the background, blurred the periphery, and used 'Smooth and flat' in the Topaz Adjust suite of filters to make her face look like porcelain. I then applied the dodge tool to lighten the model's skin a little more than it already was. With a layer mask, I brought back the original sharp texture in the eyes. The original capture was made with my medium format film camera, the Mamiya RZ 67, and the transparency was scanned by an Imacon scanner to create a digital file.
