I seek out albino animals wherever I can find them. This is a very rare albino long-tailed macaque monkey I photographed in a zoo in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I don't like zoos at all because I feel so sorry for the captive animals, but they are good places to photograph unusual animals that would be impossible to find in the wild. I was still using film in 2002, and this was originally a 6x7cm transparency that was scanned by an Imacon scanner. I've done extensive Photoshop work to eliminate the wire mesh enclosure from in front of the macaque as well as behind it. That took a lot of time and finesse. I then used Topaz Remask 5 to make a precise selection around the animal and its perch and replaced the background with muted jungle foliage. Notice the fine white hair around the head and chest has been retained. I was able to do that because of the strong contrast between the white monkey and the dark original background. My settings were unrecorded, but they were probably 1/125, f/5.6, and I used Fujichrome Provia 100 slide film (100 ISO).
