This is the Quiver Tree forest in Namibia. My photo tour group and I got lucky with a spectacular sunset in this very otherworldly place. I used what I call the 'classic landscape technique' which makes the foreground disproportionately large (by using a wide angle lens and placing the camera 3 to 6 feet from the front elements) and creating complete depth of field with a small lens aperture. This is a look I learned from David Muench back in the '70s. The primitive looking trees need a dinosaur or two to complete the sense of a primeval landscape (no problemo). My settings were .4 seconds, f/20, and 200 ISO. On my camera, I use an L bracket that allows me to switch from horizontal to vertical very easily and without having to re-adjust the ballhead on my tripod.
