Here is another picture from Namibia. This is the Quiver Tree forest at sunset. It looks like I significantly enhanced the color, but I didn't. Sunsets here are unusually intense, and the colors from the sky infuse the landscape in a way like I've not seen anywhere else. The quiver trees are so primitive looking that one might expect a dinosaur to walk across the scene (which, of course, is a good idea . . .). To make the foreground tree a dominant element, I positioned the camera about 5 or 6 feet from the tree. This is the secret to using wide angle lenses effectively -- make the camera - subject distance less than 6 feet. My settings were .4 seconds, f/20, and 200 ISO, and I used a 24-105mm lens set to the widest focal length. In my opinion, landscape photos must have complete depth of field for maximum visual impact.
