These are two wild raccoons I came across at a road-side stop outside of Montreal, Canada. There was actually a whole family of them down a slope, but these two were the bravest in coming close to people. The real challenge with a shot like this, especially since I used a telephoto focal length (145mm in this case), was to maintain enough depth of field so both animals were sharp. Had one of the raccoons been even a little bit soft, this picture wouldn't have worked. Therefore, I had to watch the two animals through my viewfinder and wait for a moment when they were equidistant to the camera. It was very dark and I was forced to use an f/2.8 aperture which compounded the challenge. The raccoons moved quickly as they scurried in the undergrowth, and of the many shots I took, only a couple of them showed the kind of depth of field I wanted.
