So many of the well-known and well-photographed places in the American Southwest are overrun with tourists now. A friend of mine told me that last week he had to wait two hours just to get into Arches National Park. So, when I photograph in Arizona, Utah, and other western locations I'm always looking for out of the way and rarely visited places to shoot. I still want dramatic photographs, but masses of people have ruined what used to be a wonderful experience exploring some of the greatest landscapes on Earth. This location is called White Pocket, and it is near Page, Arizona. I always hire a Navajo guide to take me there, and the pictures never disappoint. I used a 24mm focal length for this shot, and the settings were 1/5, f/22, and 200 ISO.
