One of the signature shots I do in Venice every year with my photo workshop is this image on the grand staircase in a medieval palace. My favorite color theme for this picture is red, and this year Mona Rose and her sister had spectacular costumes in crimson red that couldn't have been more beautiful in this classic environment. I chose a 16-35mm lens for this composition, and my settings were 1/80, f/3.5, and 3200 ISO. No flash was used; this is all available light. The complete depth of field comes from using a 16mm focal length. Had I used a smaller lens aperture, that would have forced the ISO to be higher than I wanted.
