Window light is one of the best types of lighting for indoor portraits. It's dramatic, always available, easy to use, and free. I photographed this model using only the light from a large window, and for the background I thought the rich, natural wood of an artfully designed door complemented the subject. In post-processing, I opened up the shadows to reveal the subtle tones in the wood as well as in the exquisite costume. I usually don't like compositions that crop the tips of things like wings, feet, tails, etc., but in this case the fact that the top golden strands model's head piece are cut off don't both me. My settings for this shot were 1/200, f/4, 1600 ISO, and I used a 24-105mm lens.
