It probably sounds a little strange, but you can essentially rent reptiles from some pet stores, photograph them at home, and then return them. I did exactly that with this helmeted iguana. I went into a pet store that sold reptiles, spoke to the owner, and asked if I could pay him half the price of the iguana to take it home for one night. He agreed. I paid him the full amount as deposit, and when i returned the reptile the next day he refunded half of the money. Of course, you have to take care of the animal in terms of temperature, access to water, food, etc., but that goes without saying. The advantage of doing this is that you can take some natural looking pictures with the lighting, background, perch, and environment of your choosing. It's a great way to build a collection of wildlife pictures without ever leaving your city.
