I’m at Bryce Canyon right now conducting a private workshop, and this morning the sunrise was disappointing. The sky here is very hazy due to the wildfires in California and Oregon. The sun was so weak for the first 15 minutes after it rose that the landscape appeared to have been taken in diffused light. So, I replaced the original sky with storm clouds from my photo library. I selected the sky with the quick selection tool in Photoshop, expanded the selection by 2 pixels, feathered the edge of the selection by one pixel, and then used Edit > paste special > paste into to place the new sky into the scene. Storm cloud images have saved a lot of landscapes and architecture shots that were originally taken with boring or bland skies.

Jim - Thanks very much, Ray. I hope you and your family survived the hurricane intact.

Ray Chilton - A beautiful picture! Love the color combo of the gray blue sky and orange rock formation. I look forward to having all my Zuckerman photoshop instructions back. They are in storage after Hurricane Harvey.
