I discovered something amazing yesterday. The new sky replacement in the latest version of Photoshop is fantastic as many of you already know. It’s brilliant technology. But . . . everyone thinks it is made only for sky replacement. I learned you can also use this same command to replace a sky with a landscape. You can upload various landscapes using the functions within the sky replacement dialog box. (Click on a sky and then find the + icon. Click that and you can upload more images.) The crowned cranes you see here were originally captured against a white sky. I uploaded the Mt. Kenya landscape, and instead of replacing one sky with another, I replaced a sky with a dawn landscape. Once the software accurately selects the subject, you can replace the sky background with any type of image -- Photoshop ‘thinks’ it’s just another sky. I photographed the birds with a 560mm focal length, and the settings for the shot of the cranes were 1/800, f/10, and 1000 ISO.
