I am in the midst of leading a photo tour to the swamps of Louisiana. Yesterday we came upon this unique situation where a young alligator was sharing a log with a turtle. I've never seen anything like it. It was pretty dark, which accounts for the high ISO I had to use. A fast shutter was necessary to mitigate the movement of the boat, and I wanted enough depth of field so both reptiles were sharp. I took this with the Canon 100-500mm telephoto set to 400mm, and my settings were 1/1600, f/11, and 20,000 ISO. I didn't use any post-processing software to deal with noise, yet the noise is absent because the Canon R5 is so good. Whenever there are two subjects like this, both must be sharp or else the picture doesn't work.
