This is a ringed kingfisher I photographed in the Pantanal region of Brazil. What really surprised me about this capture was that it's sharp. I was shooting from a boat moving in the opposite direction of the bird, and I snapped the shutter assuming it would be an exercise in futility. Fortunately I was wrong. I captured this 3 years ago when I was still shooting with the Canon 1Dx Mark II, and this camera doesn't have eye tracking. Still, the AF system was good enough to lock onto the bird and produce a good image. My settings were 1/2000, f/16, and 1600 ISO. I didn't choose these settings in anticipation of capturing a shot like this; these were the settings I was using for another photo opportunity. My lens was a 100-400mm Canon zoom set to 321mm. I replaced the sky for drama, and in post-processing I used Topaz Photo AI to eliminate any noise as well as to sharpen the kingfisher.
