I took this portrait of an Icelandic horse in southern Iceland. I used a 100-400mm Canon telephoto set to 349mm, and this meant the depth of field was shallow. And that, turn, meant the clouds had to be completely out of focus. That's why I replaced the sky. I wanted some interest and drama in the background. The settings were 1/250, f/16, and 400 ISO. Note that even with a small aperture like f/16, there wouldn't have been enough DOF to render the sky sharp because of the focal length I used. The sky replacement feature in Photoshop is indeed remarkable. It even retained the fine hair around the head and mane. This picture is uncropped.
