I photographed these Siberian tigers in a reserve in northern China. It was minus 36 degrees Fahrenheit, and I couldn't get over how these huge cats seemed so comfortable in the frigid temperatures. The male Siberians are monsters at 700 pounds -- the largest of all cats. I had a mask and hood on to protect the skin on my face, and my breath condensed when it hit the cold air. This formed a vapor on the LCD screen, and of course the moisture froze instantly on the cold surface. So, for most of this shoot, I was essentially shooting blind. I couldn't see what I was taking -- like in the good old days of film. This pair of amorous tigers was fairly close to our vehicle, so I only needed a 70-200mm lens. My settings were 1/800, f/8, and 400 ISO. Amazingly, my Canon 5D Mark III worked flawlessly in the sub-zero temperatures. One lady in my group who was using Nikon had issues with her camera jamming after 3 or 4 shots because of the extreme cold.
