I haven't started shooting carnival yet because I just arrived in Venice, so here is a photo I took a few years ago. This was the only time I've seen snow here, and none of the costumed models were out. Despite the large number of tourists that were here, the city seemed empty because no one was outside. The models didn't want the snow to melt on the fine fabrics and feathers that comprise their costumes, so I selected a portrait of a romantic couple I photographed the day before and pasted them into the snow scene in San Marco Square. I thought the colors in their costumes matched the mauve color in the street lamps nicely. I added the drop shadow beneath them with the dodge tool on 25% opacity because even in diffused light, everything casts a shadow. My settings for the background were 1/125, f/8, and 640 ISO, and I used a 24-105mm Canon zoom.
