One of the icons of Venice is the Bridge of Sighs where, in centuries past, condemned criminals would walk before being executed. There are many ways to photograph it; here I chose a wide angle lens so the costumed model was disproportionately large compared to the background. This same technique is used in landscape photography a lot where wildflowers, fallen logs, and rock formations are used as foreground elements. The secret is getting close to the foreground for maximum impact. I used a 24-105mm lens for the shot, and my settings were 1/40, f/9, and 400 ISO. The original sky was white, so I replaced it with gray clouds to add additional visual drama.
