This is the Falesia Second Tower in the city of San Marino, which is the capital of the country of San Marino located south of Venice within Italy. It is a winter sunrise shot in February. Getting up and out in the dark and cold is not one of my favorite things to do, but for beautiful pictures, of course I'll do it. I specifically wanted the lights on the castle to be on, so I shot this in the murky light of dawn, working quickly before they were turned off. I got lucky because it had snowed the night before. This was the ideal situation in which all of the trees were laden with fresh powder. I shot this from a tripod, and my settings were 1/40, f/2.8, and 200 ISO. I used a 70-200mm medium telephoto, and when using a tripod, I'm always mindful to turn the image stabilization off. This saves the battery, especially in the cold, and with some lenses you can't get sharp pictures when the IS is turned on and the camera and lens are mounted on a tripod.
