There are some dramatic sea caves on the southern coast of Portugal. The Benagil Cave is the most dramatic and photogenic. My photography tour group and I took a chartered boat tour of the coastline, and we landed by a small zodiac at the cave’s entrance. To encompass the large interior and to include the gaping hole in the rocky ceiling plus the two archways, I had to use a 14mm wide angle lens. The contrast between the sky and water with the shaded interior of the cave was significant. Only the HDR technique can address this exposure discrepancy. This is a 7-frame HDR composite with one f/stop increments, and then in ACR I lightened the shadows and darkened the highlights. In addition, I added clarity and a bit of color saturation.
