Every once in a while, serendipity happens and things come together to present an exceptional photo opportunity. That's what happened on one of my Namibia photo tours when my group and I were photographing the world's largest sand dunes at Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert. We were walking back to the vehicle after having photographed sunrise on the orange dunes when I saw someone way up near the top. Given the distance, I couldn't figure out what he was doing until he took flight and sailed back and forth across the face of the dune as he descended. It was absolutely perfect. The sun was still low in the eastern sky to provide spectacular side lighting, and the hang glider pilot flew in the perfect position from our point of view. What a thrill! My settings were 1/400, f/5.0, 200 ISO, and I used a 70-200mm lens set to 145mm. My next photo tour that includes these dunes is May, 2018.
