One of the great urban views on the planet is from the 100th floor of the Financial Center Building looking down on Shanghai, China. It truly takes your breath away. I took this picture a few hours ago, and I had to shoot through glass. The real challenge here was to avoid getting reflections from the lights in the room behind me. The glass is angled and so was the camera, so lights and reflections of elements in the room can intrude on the picture if you are not careful. What I had to do was use my hands and my hat to block those unwanted reflections. It's an easy solution, but in the excitement of the moment it's very easy to forget to do it. You can see the reflections in the viewfinder if you look for them, but they are subtle and it's easy to overlook the problem.
My settings for this picture were: 200 ISO, tripod, 24-105mm lens set to 24mm, .8 shutter speed, f/4, mirror lockup, self-timer. I enhanced the color and contrast a little in post-processing in an effort to cut through the smoggy air so characteristic of large cities in China.
