During the parade at the Jember Fashion Carnival in East Java, Indonesia, the costumed participants walked and danced toward my camera. That meant that every millisecond, the distance between them and me grew smaller, thus the focus was constantly changing. Therefore, I switched my camera to AI Servo so it could track the movement faster and more accurately than in 'one shot' mode. I don't trust this mode for fast moving subjects like flying birds, but for moderate amounts of movement it works very well. At the same time, I raised the ISO enough to make sure the shutter speed was fast enough for sharp pictures.
I shot this picture at 1/160th of a second with an ISO of 250. The lens aperture I selected was f/11 in order to garner a decent amount of depth of field because the costumes were so large as well as deep. My lens was 70-200mm.
