I photographed this wild peacock in silhouette against a solid blue sky. The shape of the bird and its beautiful feathers was lovely, but the blue background was mundane, even boring. So, using the 'multiply' blend mode in the layers palette, I replaced the sky. Layering images together with blend modes means it's usually possible to retain all of the ultra fine detail in the subject. My settings for the original picture of the peacock were 1/800, f/8, and 160 ISO. I used a 100-400mm Canon zoom in conjunction with a 1.4x teleconverter for the picture. What defines the success of silhouette images is the graphic design of the subject. A strong design usually results in a strong picture.
