I posted this image a few years ago, but I wanted to show it again because it’s one of my favorites from Africa. Even though the background is very busy, every time I see this image I laugh. These are deadly predators, killers of pretty much anything they can catch, and yet here most of them are sleeping without a care in the world like a litter of overgrown house cats. I took this image in Lake Nakuru National Park in Kenya with a Canon 500mm f/4 telephoto resting on a bean bag. My settings were 1/250, f/4, and 400 ISO. I was grateful for the overcast sky, because a shot like this in a forest environment would have been impossible with a midday sun. The extreme contrast and the terrible shadows would have ruined everything.
