We had a wonderful first day in my Winter Wildlife Workshop today here in Kalispell, Montana. The first animal we photographed was my favorite -- the snow leopard. I photographed her a couple of years ago when she was a young cub, and she is still breathtaking to see. Most of the pictures I shot were such that she didn't pay attention to our cameras, but for a brief moment this beautiful cat looked with great intensity at my camera and, at 20 frames per second, I was able to capture just two frames. That's how quick it was. My settings were designed to freeze movement and capture a certain amount of depth of field. They were 1/1600, f/8, and 3200. Fortunately, we had an overcast sky that provided diffused light. The original sky was white, but I replaced it with an out of focus cloud image so the eye wouldn't be distracted from the leopard's face.
