I photographed this snow leopard during a past winter wildlife workshop in Montana. The cat was playing with a lure -- basically a long broom. Many of the big cats are incredibly agile, and they can go airborne in an instant. The heights they can reach are impressive. Hoping for this kind of action, I set my camera to freeze the fast-action movement. My settings were 1/1600, f/14, and 1600 ISO. I used a Canon 100-400mm telephoto to capture the image, and I chose a center cluster of focus points to lock focus on the subject. Now that I have the Canon R5, I would set the autofocus to recognize and lock onto the eye, and then I'd have full confidence the snow leopard would be sharp throughout the pathway of its trajectory. My next winter workshop is February 2 - 5, 2022.
