I'm starting another photo workshop in Canada in a couple of days for snowy owls. It's going to be cold, but these beautiful birds are worth it. I'm shooting with the Canon R5, and I use the fastest frame rate available on the camera which is 20 fps. This may seem like overkill, but subjects like flying birds are so fast that it's impossible to really compose a picture. All of your attention is directed to just keeping the moving subject in focus. That means many frames per second captures every nuance of the flight and that, in turn, gives me many different compositions. Here I was able to capture strong backlighting as the owl crossed in front of the sun. Even though snowy are relatively slow fliers, this kind of composition is there and gone in a millisecond. Thus, the need for a fast frame rate. My settings for this picture were 1/3200, f/11, and 800 ISO.
