I photographed these young snub-nosed monkeys in China as they played together with amazing agility. These are wild animals, but they come down from the mountains for the free food the park rangers put out for them so tourists and photographers can take pictures. These little guys are so fast that it’s hard to keep focus on them, and you never know what you’ve captured until you look at the LCD screen later. I used autofocus tracking. I was shooting with a 100-400mm Canon telephoto at 14 frames per second. Because of the relatively shallow depth of field, the only successful pictures with the two babies were when their faces were essentially on the same plane. That meant they were equidistant to the lens. My settings were 1/500, f/7.1, and 1600 ISO. I am especially intrigued by blue in nature, and I love the cyan-blue color of their faces.
