The two best times to photograph landscapes are sunrise/sunset or when the sky is overcast. In this case, my photo tour group and I had a dull, gray sky, and while many photographers would be disappointed, I thought this kind of lighting condition was ideal. The deep canyon at Horseshoe Bend near Page, Arizona means that low angled sunlight won't illuminate the bottom of the gorge, and therefore the soft light provided the kind of artistic interpretation of this landscape I was looking for.
I shot this with a 14mm wide angle lens. This made the rocks in the foreground seem disproportionately large and dramatic.
