In Chitwan National Park my photo tour group and I took a peaceful non-motorized boat trip down a river where we photographed birds, deer, two different species of crocodiles, and a rhino. This shot shows a spotted deer leaping up an embankment as our boat got a little too close for the animal's comfort. I took the picture with a 500mm lens, hand held of course in the boat, as we were drifting with the fairly fast current. I used a high ISO to keep my shutter fast enough for a sharp picture. The settings were 1/640, f/9, 2000 ISO. Note the vertical composition. I anticipated the jump and therefore left enough room in the frame to capture the entire deer. Had I held the camera at the more comfortable horizontal orientation, I couldn't have included the entire animal given that the 500mm f/4 is fixed and not a zoom.
