I saw these railroad cars in St. John's, Washington in the Palouse. I've always loved trains, so I thought I could turn this into an artistic image by adding structure, saturation, and contrast. I used Nik software for that. In Nik's Color Efex Pro 4, I applied the filters tonal contrast, pro contrast, and glamour glow. The problem for me, though, was the graffiti. I hate graffiti. In this case, it was applied over the artistic rendition of stalks of grain, and that made it very difficult to deal with. Plus, it obscured the word 'state'. It took me about 25 minutes to fix this, and the strategy I used will be explained in the July issue of Photo Insights, my free monthly eMagazine. Maria - Jim, you did an amazing job fixing it. I can see how you did grain and I look forward to learning how you did the lettering.
