I took this shot of sunset behind the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey, from my hotel window. Fortunately, it was an old hotel and I could actually open a glass window to the outside and feel the air on my face. In other words, there was no glass between my camera and the distant subject. My settings were 1/250, f/8, and 320 ISO, and I used a 24 -105mm lens. I waited until the mountain partially obscured the sun because I knew that would diminish the contrast in the scene, and that in turn meant more detail would be seen in the mosque without the need for HDR.
