I find it difficult to take an exciting picture of an impala. Antelope don't have the same allure as big cats and large mammals like giraffes and rhinos. Nevertheless, in silhouette, they make beautiful shapes. In fact, that's what defines the success of silhouettes. It's the graphic design, or the shape, of the subject(s). Graphic designs with attractive lines make great images. I took this picture with a 500mm f/4 Canon lens along with a 1.4x teleconverter giving me 700mm of focal length. The shallow depth of field produced an out of focus sun, so I replaced the background so both planes -- foreground and background -- were sharp. This is the actual sky behind the impala, but in the original capture it wasn't sharp. I wanted an image that represented what I saw with my eyes, not the artificial construct created by lens optics. My settings were 1/1250, f/13, and 200 ISO.
