This is one of the first HDR images I did in 2008. It is a bed and breakfast establishment in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The courtyard was open to the sky, and the exposure discrepancy between the brightly illuminated court versus the shadows beneath the arch was at least 5 f/stops. I used a 5-frame bracketed sequence with one f/stop increments to even out the contrast. In the process of assembling the images, I went a little bit wild with the colors by increasing the saturation to surreal proportions. I also added a Topaz filter to introduce a painterly feel. My settings were f/22, 200 ISO, and the shutter varied per the HDR technique. I used a 16mm focal length and straightened the keystoning in post-processing. I don’t like the vertical lines of architecture leaning inward.
