For many years, I've seen pictures of tall ships with red sails cruising around icebergs and glacial ice in Greenland and other polar locations. It's a spectacular combination of color and form, but I haven't had that opportunity. So, I made it happen in Photoshop. I had a photograph of a red-sail tall ship taken off the coast of Norfolk, Virginia, and I had pictures of blue ice from Patagonia. The challenge was making a perfect selection that included the rigging of the ship. The sky replacement feature in the new Photoshop is brilliant, but it wasn't able to meticulously separate the sky from the rigging. So, working at 300%, I made the selection with various tools and then pasted the ship inside the huge opening in the iceberg. Fortunately, I used a low ISO because that enabled me to have the best selection possible with no noise. I used Edit > transform > scale to size it correctly, and then I used Flood to make the reflection. A layer mask had to be used as well as a lowered opacity to realistically blend the reflection with the blue water. My settings for the photo of the ship were 1/640, f/9, and 100 ISO.
