The orangutans in Borneo are brought into telephoto range by food. Otherwise it would be impossible to photograph them in the dense jungle. A large pile of bananas and sugar cane is put out for them, and usually within a few minutes they come down from the canopy. I don't like taking pictures of them with food in their mouths, and I also avoid shooting in the contrasty light of direct sunlight. When a cloud obscures the sun, that's when I look for striking compositions. This is an alpha male striking a powerful pose. I digitally placed a tree at the bottom of the frame to block the feeding platform. My settings were 1/320, f/7.1, and 6400 ISO. It was obviously quite dark which is what forced the ISO to be high. I shot this with Canon's 100-400mm lens at maximum focal length.
