This is a long-tailed macaque jumping from one tree to another in the Indonesian portion of Borneo. What’s remarkable about this picture is that I shot it from a moving boat. In fact, I was completely surprised got this shot. I saw that the monkey wanted to jump, and my camera happened to be set up for action shooting. I had about 2 seconds before vegetation obscured the monkey as the boat I was in cruised down the river. I quickly focused on the monkey, and as it leaped just in time for me to grab the image, I was able to capture 3 frames of it airborne due to the 14 fps capbility of my Canon 1Dx Mark II. The sun was in the perfect position to backlight the hair of the macaque. My settings were 1/1250, f/11, and 1600 ISO. I shot this with a focal length of 400mm, and I had to crop this a bit to make a more dynamic composition.
