This is a black-tailed mongoose I photographed in Kenya a few years ago. These animals are famous for their ability to kill venomous snakes, particularly cobras. You can go on YouTube and search for videos of these enounters, and they are pretty amazing. I've only seen a mongoose once, and fortunately it gave me a very nice pose. I took this with a Canon 500mm f/4 telephoto. Safari vehicles in Africa are too high for my taste, but there is nothing I can do about that. Passengers are seated about six feet above the ground. Low perspectives with animals make more dramatic images. The further away the animals is, however, and the longer the lens you use, the more the perspective will look eye-level as opposed to angling the camera downward. My settings were 1/250, f/8, and 100 ISO.
