This is an iconic shot in Provence during the lavender growing season. Most photographers position themselves so the rows of flowers go directly to the lone tree. I've done that, too, but this time I took the picture off to the side to capture a different perspective on the lavender. It was critical that everything was rendered tack sharp, so I used f/22 for maximum depth of field. The original sky was solid blue, so I made it more interesting with pastel clouds. Blending the new sky into this image was tricky because it really wasn't possible to separate the tree. I used a blend mode along with a layer mask to do that. This kind of sky could only be used if the landscape was lit with diffused lighting. My other settings were 1/250, 1600 ISO, and I took this picture with a 100-400mm telephoto zoom set to 400mm.
