When I was scouting Provence to find the best lavender fields before my group arrived, I came upon this field of sunflowers. However, the flowers hadn't matured enough to make a good subject. Within a few days, however, they grew large enough to be a strong subject. What is amazing about sunflowers is they all face the same direction. Instead of manicured rows of color, like lavender, they present a mass of round yellow 'faces'. I added the pale pink clouds to add interest to the original plain sky. My settings were 1/320, f/22, 800 ISO, and I used a 400mm focal length. I knew the telephoto lens wouldn't be able to provide complete depth of field unless I used the smallest f/stop possible. As I've said before, the ideal is that landscape photos show everything to be in focus.
