I began my career in 1969 creating nothing but special effects, and I've never lost the love of surrealism and fantasy. When I was looking through my New Zealand pictures from last year, it occurred to me that a strong subject in the foreground would work with this 20-second dawn exposure of Lake Wanaka. So, I used the pen tool to select a rearing white horse I captured in France (during my White Horses of the Camargue photo tour), pasted it into the background, and then added a unicorn horn I bought on eBay. At the bottom of the frame, I added the stallion's reflection using the Photoshop plug-in Flood. Finally, I blended the Milky Way with the original cobalt blue sky. When the composite was complete, I tweaked the color and contrast in Nik HDR Efex Pro 2.
