This house in the village of Merthyr Mawr in Wales and dates from the 1600's. It has a thatch roof artistically shaped to frame the house nicely, and there are several other houses on the same street that make you feel like you've stepped back in time. I spoke to one lady who told me her house was built in 1580. Hard to imagine. For this image, I used a 24-105mm lens set to 105mm. The settings were 1/100, f/16, and 2500 ISO. I used a small aperture because the angle from which I was shooting was oblique, and that meant the film plane (i.e. the plane of the digital sensor) was angled with respect to the plane of the house facade. That hindered the ability to have complete depth of field. I wanted all the vegetation surrounding and framing the house to be sharp, thus the f/16 aperture. The overcast light was perfect for the look I wanted.
