This is ‘outrageous portrait’ number two from my photo library. I photographed this bizarre creature at the Jember Fashion Carnaval in Indonesia. The photography at this event is simply over-the-top incredible! The latest costume embellishment the young people are using are visually arresting, ultra bizarre non-human contact lenses. I had a photo tour to Indonesia this August that included this festival, but due to the virus situation the 2020 event was cancelled. I therefore postponed the tour until the summer of 2021. My wife arranges VIP passes for my group so, before the mind-boggling costume parade, we can take intimate closeups behind the scenes as the participants are adorning themselves. I’ve never seen a festival with such creative costumes, artful face decoration, and shocking color. My settings for this shot were 1/640, f/6.3, and 800 ISO, and I used a 70-200mm telephoto.

Lorraine Piskin - Hi Jim: I love these portraits...I wish to be able to go on another trip with you in 2021. It's a frightening time for all of us now and the future might not be as it once was...I would have to go everywhere with a mask...I happen to have an N95 from way back when and I'm keeping it for future trips if need be to protect myself against any germ out there...otherwise I can't go on any more distance travel photographic opportunities. I had to cancel Spain. Was supposed to go for an equine shoot this weekend coming up...so it's an unnerving time we're living in. You keep us happy with your blogs every day, Jim. Hope to see you soon, Stay Healthy and say hi to Dia. xoxoxLorraine
