This is the ancient Roman theater in Merida, Spain. The day was overcast with a solid white sky, so I replaced that with a stormy sky in which the sun was trying to show through. I shot this with a 14mm Canon lens, and although the aperture was f/8, it wasn't small enough to ensure that the immediate foreground was as sharp as the background. You can see that the stonework at the bottom of the frame is slightly soft. Even with an extreme wide angle lens, if foreground elements are too close to the camera, complete depth of field can only be created by using apertures in the f/16 or smaller range. I took this picture hand holding the camera with a shutter speed of 1/250 and an ISO setting of 200. Had I used 800 ISO, the f/8 would have become f/16. That's what I should have done. I do like the dramatic perspective, though. Wide angle lenses exaggerate lines and design, and that was my goal here.
