On my last trip to the Pantanal in 2014, my group and I never saw jaguars swimming. On this trip that was just concluded, we saw and photographed many in the water. it was awesome. This one was swimming past our boat and was quite close. This picture is not cropped at all. I used my 500mm lens hand held, and the settings were 1/8000, f/9, and 5000 ISO. Admittedly I should have lowered the ISO because I didn't need such a fast shutter, but I had just been shooting a bird in the shade when the jaguar went into the water, and I didn't have time to re-adjust the camera. Actually, I didn't think about changing the settings because I was too excited at seeing this amazing thing so close.

ian - nice photo Jim, nice to see the pro's forget to change settings as well. Actually, some of my best shots (not Many) were captured when I have been setting up from a previous days shoot when the unexpected happens and you instinctively take the shot without a thought for the settings in your camera.
